Floortime Therapy
DIR Floortime® is a therapeutic framework developed by psychiatrist Dr. Stanley Greenspan. It utilizes a strength-based model which looks at the child as a whole to help them master the foundational building blocks of relating, communicating, and thinking. Relationships are key to this approach with child-led therapy and a family centered mindset.
What is DIR/Floortime Therapy?
-
DIR/Floortime® (Developmental, Individual differences, Relationships based) promotes social-emotional, communicative, and cognitive growth through emotionally meaningful relationships. It is grounded in developmental science and emphasizes individual neurobiological differences and the power of affective interactions.

Core Principles
-
Developmental Focus: supports progression through milestones
-
Individual Differences: recognizes sensory processing, motor planning, and communication variations
-
Relationship Based: utilizes relationships to co-regulate
-
Child-led Interaction: follows intrinsic motivation, fostering authentic communication
-
Co-regulation and autonomy: safety, trust, and emotional reciprocity precede learning
